Symptoms of a Broken Nose
Information about broken nose symptoms: A broken nose is an unpleasant experience and occurs when there is a crack or break in the nasal bone. Additionally, when a fracture occurs there is often an accompanying tear in the cartilage that surrounds the nasal bone. If you experience trauma to your nose and you suffer any of the subsequent symptoms, it is best to seek medical attention. A doctor will treat your broken nose to ensure you will not have any further complications.
Pain and Discomfort
A broken nose can create different pain sensations depending on the extent of the injury and the amount of injured cartilage surrounding the nasal bone. Depending on whether the injury is a crack or break, you can experience anything from sharp pain to a dull throbbing pain. Most importantly, if you experience an increased level of pain when touching your nose, you should seek medical help.
Bruising around the Nose and Eyes
Many noses that are broken as a result of blunt trauma are accompanied by a great deal of bruising around the nose and eyes. This is because the break along the nasal bone and cartilage severs the capillaries that provide your face with the blood it needs. In turn, these capillaries leak out inside the body and create pools of blood, resulting in a bruised appearance.
A Crooked Nose
Most broken noses tend to fracture sideways rather than straight back into the head. This is because most impacts are not perfectly aligned with the front of the nose. Consequently, this will create a break or crack that will be misaligned with the natural curvature of the nose. If your nose looks bent to one side it is a good sign you have suffered a broken nose.
Bleeding from the Nose
If you start bleeding profusely from your nose following a direct impact, then that is a good sign you may have a broken nose. When the nasal bone cracks or breaks it can splinter and sever arteries surrounding your nasal passage. This will cause you to bleed a lot but you should be able to stop it. To do this you should apply direct pressure to your nose and seek medical attention immediately.
While a broken nose can be very painful and uncomfortable, it is not the end of the world. If you experience any of these symptoms seek medical attention immediately so you can get fixed up without having to deal with further complications.
If you have a broken nose or are concerned about broken nose symptoms contact your local doctor who will arrange for you to see a nose surgeon.
